The life of a dog with locomotor handicap

Many of us have pets and the more they want to have a soul to cheer up their home. We like dogs and cats when they are playful, healthy, balanced. But how would we proceed if at some point it happens that things will take an unpleasant turn? An accident, a disease that will require a lot of patience, the time given to our Quadruped. How many of us would choose to give it to a refuge or even worse to euit it and how much would have gone before the quadruped as a member of the family that must be supported and cared for when the situation requires it?

A few years ago, when I moved to Brasov, I met Suzana and Cora. Suzana, a cheerful and foxed boy, cora an adorable puppy, full of life that moved with a stroller because the two rear legs had cut them. Between the two there is an indescribable chemistry, you would have told you they understand each other. I thought that there was no better example of love, hypothesis and altruism. That’s why I decided to talk to Suzana and talk about two. Suzana and Cora.

A: Who is Cora? How, when and where did you see yourself for the first time?

S: I adopted it from the refuge of millions of friends. From 1 December 11 years ago, it was the day of the doors open to them and the new (at that time I was a couple) had adopted a puppy after only 3 months. And I said to visit the asylum. I found it. He was very shy and just sterilized, I asked to take it a little in his arms and struck me directly. Mrs. Brindusa Rise, the administrator there, saying that it had already been chosen. And I said well, let’s go with us. We didn’t prepare, I only left to take a walk, I didn’t have a leash. It was about 5 months and 3 kg, so he went to the jacket, but the strong phase is that we donated «to live» us 3 she who did not have a card reader … and for 3 she kept the Chinese.

A: What age was Cora when he started presenting health problems?

S: It was a small terminator, I linked it to the mask of the Langa sink by the Russians who had already made everything that was a leash, thread through the house, the table, the bed and about 2 phones, one new and in subscription. In the first winter I noticed that after running away from joy, skier. So I was still going to the doctor but apart from the anti -inflammatory he was not receiving anything.

The 2nd year, a comedy was fatal, skipped and played with another more energetic puppy, at the moment he had nothing but the 2nd day on which I noticed that he did not come to come in the morning to wake up, so I brought him with me to keep it under observation and under my eyes he completely paralyzed me.

We surrounded the veterinary offices of Brasov until one of the doctors sent us to Sf Gheorghe, to Dr. Kondor Attila. There we made an X -ray and we told us that he had little bit of the column, genetically, that on the jump he pressed the nerve. I made some injections in the column for about 2 weeks and completely recovered in about a month, but I knew there was the risk of returning the problem at any time. Unfortunately, Joy did not keep much that he does not understand that the man did not jump from /to bed, so on my November day he went and has already failed again. There was a longer treatment, I was going to 2 days in Sf.Gheorghe for physiotherapy and injections in the column, but this time it was without improvement. None of Brasov’s doctors, nor Dr. Kondor gave us great hopes, everyone suggested euthanasia by saying that life expectancy is a maximum of 1-2 years in paralyzed dogs.

A: How did you manage to cope with the expenses? Did you think at least once to give up Cora? Do you give it to a refuge?

S: I never wondered the problem of surrendering me as long as he played and ate, so I received the help from the animal US so much to cover the cost of the vet (I went for about 3 months, one day and one that I didn’t pay 100 she/day, as well as petrol and medicines, pampers … pampers … I have already exceeded a long time) for a long time.
I had the cart in Bucharest ordered, it cost 1000 she for her life 11 years ago. It is very resistant and it was only necessary to replace the wheels and support wiring after about 7 years. I went everywhere with him, large and mountain, I skipped the edges, walking through sand at sea and I paved.

A: Considering Korei’s situation, I imagine that it requires a different cure for a perfectly healthy dog. How are you doing it?

S: Once the pain is stabilized, Cora was a perfectly normal dog, even easier to keep by one who wakes up at 7 in the morning, like a great lazy people who were like the pampers and the fact that I was emptying the bladder at home.

The bladder did not know that a doctor I went to, I learned from YouTube, nobody showed us, because they probably only knew theoretically. He remembered another to ask me how he was with urination and if I said I was, he approves it and so on. Did I tell you I love pampers yes? Who also give a cystitis, but nothing to pass. The problem of urinary tract infections is the main cause for which paralyzed dogs die and for which we have not been given the possibility of none of the doctors. That’s why you have to filter the information and look for yourself, we have no enough information and we have no cases to learn, because people give up paralyzed dogs.

The paralyzed legs can have 2 modes: ball – when they can be rear, that is, they return the opposite of the normal and straight position – when they sting without being able to bend, under the belly. Noting that he is tormenting the walk without cart, with his feet, I asked if they can be amputated. Dr. Kondor looked at me horrified and told me that there is no shortcut operation, which is complex and is not done, so I want. Fixed 2 years after Paralisi, I entered the house in the evening at 23 years of age, I came to a friend and I couldn’t find the phone to call her not to leave, who had brought me home in the car. The whole house was only blood and someone rises in 2 legs with joy that I arrived, and on the rear they hung some cartilages, veins … something. He had eaten a leg. At that time I found a sewing veterinarian, a veterinarian who was still blocked. Then I abbreviated both legs and since then I have done nothing but switching and minimum service. Apart from the high treatment costs from the beginning when we tried to save the walk, it does not exceed anything, the maintenance of a paralyzed dog, that of a normal one. Once you take the trolley, it holds you a life, the cost is amortized, 2 wheels at 6-7 are not a fortune. And they can be taken by the trolleys.

Not all dogs remain with the impossibility of satisfying the needs alone, it depends on which area the column is influenced, so it was, others have incontinence, others are done alone but it is as if I had a child.

A: Has the lack of feet somehow influenced socialization with people around or with other dogs?

S: Cora is very sociable and has remained unchanged even if it is in the carriage, no dog has attacked him in so many years, rather he fears the robodog because I do not understand from the first who is with the wheel. On the street it is as if I went out with a star, I turn all our heads after us. When I was at sea by train, he continually ate from all over the wagon, they stopped to give them only when I told them that they would remove everything in it. On the beach and in the hotel we are and the monkey, all children and adults get there. We frequently receive from the house where we attract several attention, at the table, to the restaurant, to the parking lot … they win. It is a very sticky puppy and does not inspire mercy, against it. He learned alone to communicate verbally and to make himself understood, even if he can no longer give in to the door, or he does not turn in a circle, he does not jump like a normal puppy but has different maramblies for what he wants, he speaks of you. But that’s why he had to listen to. I have not brought it to any training, I have always tried to understand what it wants. And you don’t want to know how much like it it is and support me again

A: spend your holidays together?

S: The team goes everywhere together, on vacation (Costinesti, Damboviciarara, Bran, Moieciu, Sibiu, Greece). I don’t regret what I have lost in time, because I couldn’t follow him. For example, more exotic destinations in which we find more difficult accommodation with dogs or the need for planes and Cora has passed the kg in the cabin. But in the end we still make a Bora Bora if we think of it, even if it will be a more intense experience with the plane at the Cala, at least we live near a coconut.

I don’t regret the decision made for a moment, he taught me what the real joy means and I learn to be better, that at the origins they are a real scorpion

So we have 11 years of which 9 with wheels and the worst seems to me that you cannot play as much as they want with others, otherwise I don’t feel the slightest difference from a normal dog.

Suzana gave us a lesson, precious. A lesson on giving, love, altruism and assumption. A lesson from which we must learn that a pet is not a toy that we keep only as long as it works perfectly. A pet is a family member next to us who remain, whatever happens. We will receive the reward.
