Laura: A boarding facility for pets was not my main idea. When I moved from Bucharest to Brasov, I saw that there were no boarding houses or daycare centers for pets in Brasov. Those who went on vacation and could not take their dogs with them had to leave them in Bucharest. So, I contacted the veterinary health management to gather information about starting a dog boarding facility. Although the staff were very helpful, they could only provide me with info about the basic requirements for a dog shelter, not for boarding (they don’t have a guide for dog boarding facilities).
I began searching for land outside the city, not too far from utilities, ideally with utilities already in place, but still a bit away from homes to avoid bothering the neighbors. There was a large plot of land suitable for two buildings (the dog boarding facility and my future home), with plenty of space to run, etc.
After several months of searching, finding something that met all the requirements and fit my budget for a tourist boarding facility that would also be pet-friendly was challenging. Having my dog Dexter already, I understood how hard it could be to find places that accepted pets. After more months of searching, I finally found the perfect place in Moieciu de Sus.
Do you have pets? Did you get them before or after starting the boarding facility?
Laura: Yes, I have 2 dogs, one before I opened the facility and one after.

Health of teeth in dogs – more important than I thoughtI’ve had Dexter for 7 years and started the facility 4 years ago. Dexter is a male Fox Terrier, and we have been together for about 3 months now. Milka joined our family nearly 2 years after I moved to Moieciu. She was hit by a car and rescued by a Brașov organization that focuses on saving dogs (Anu). She had surgery and spent weeks recovering because she could not use her back legs. She needed a safe yard to be watched over, protected from harm, and recover with exercise, treatment, creams, etc. After a month, Milka started to walk and transformed from a Foster into a failed Foster, living her life with us in Moieciu. Milka is now around 12 years old.
Petmax: What is the area like where you established the boarding facility? Is it a place where people care about their pets and are willing to keep them at home or in your boarding facility?
Laura: Moieciu de Sus is a beautiful area, slightly more airy and not as crowded as the Prahova Valley, the landscapes are absolutely wonderful. The people who come here for the first time are absolutely enthusiastic about the area and rightly. However, Moieciu de Sus is a village where animal preconceptions are deeply rooted in humans. That is to say, the dog should only be outside, possibly in the chain, to eat residues from the people’s table, cats are not allowed at home and rarely receive food because otherwise they do not catch mice.
Unfortunately, the people here, who in many other areas of the country are not very attentive and caring with their animals, especially with those that produce nothing (milk, meat, etc.). Obviously, the world here does not sterilize their dogs, we are not talking about reduced, microchip. Another problem is the dogs left free through the village which are inevitably carved by cars. The clubs look at people who live in the apartment with dogs and make holidays or go on vacation with them. Consequently, there are few pensions that accept pets, this situation is similar to the country, not only to the Moieciu area. Of course, there are exceptions, people who save dogs, sterilize them for free through free sterilization programs or their own expenses or that put dogs in adoptions. Unfortunately, these people remain only exceptions.

The life of a dog with locomotor handicapHow did tourists have the idea of receiving dogs in retirement? Both dogs and dogs without dogs
Laura: Certainly, tourists who have at least one pet have been happy with the existence of an extra pension for pets. Of course, there are people who do not have dogs, I don’t understand what a pension means that accepts pets or to tolerate the presence of one or more dogs inside. In order for things to be as transparent as possible, I inform all the people who make a booking in us who are a pension for pets and who will most likely be in the common spaces and courtyard. Those disturbed by the presence of dogs are recommended to go to the accommodation spaces that do not accept pets.
What does an additional pension require more than one who does not accept animals?
Laura: I don’t know if it should be among the basic requirements of a pension for pets, but a large and fenced courtyard is welcome. The pension is located near the main road and this is why I absolutely consider it the existence of a fence. In addition, a strong vacuum cleaner for animal hair but also towels, water or food bowls, stool bags, toys are welcome. Last but not least, I would like to mention that the existence of a special regulation for pets. And of course the patience to explain to each one that we are a pension for pets and what it means.
Because you hit you by hitting people with animals
Laura: The regulation for pet owners appeared following unpleasant experiences, from pee to red or scratched doors, excessive barking, plants or destroyed trees, dogs closed in the room with hours or left unattended in the courtyard. So, before making a reservation, the tourist is asked to read our regulations. Most of the delicate owners respect the regulation but, unfortunately, there are exceptions.
Apart from dogs what other animals are well welcomed in the pension?
Laura: All pets are welcome. I hosted parrots, guinea pigs, hamsters and cats as well as all breeds and size of dogs. A lady came with a kitten in a special backpack so that she can take her with her to take a walk. A couple was walking with a leash fisherman on the route. We are pleased to host people with their pets and, through our pet policy, we encourage people to spend a lot of time with their companions.

Guide to the treatment of Blanos Chicken in the first weeksHave you hosted various events that involve animals?
Laura: The first event was the construction team of Anu (Mili needs us), an NGO of Brasov who takes care of saving animals without a teacher and took Milka after being trampled on the car. Obviously, all year round the members adopted at least one dog or cat and came with them in the construction of the team.
Then I collaborated with a Bucharest coach who organized training seminars for 3 days with individual/ group training sessions for people to improve their relationship with dog and dog to have fun with his man and other dogs.
I can’t help but mention the regular meetings that have the «Gasure» of Collie, Goldeni or Pomeranians.
There are also events that happen alone, without a previous organization when in one weekend every reserved room had at least 1 dog, about 2 or even 3. There were about 12 dogs, races and different sizes, everyone was extremely good. But perhaps more important than the fact that there were no problems with dogs was the fact that people (adults, children) who did not know each other before making friends and maintaining the connection today. We became the event of the great Fugausea because during 2 days the dogs played and managed continuously, the people socialized, their friends tied everyone. From my point of view this means a successful weekend. Very soon we will host the third edition of the great fugitive.
Being friendly retirement requires greater hygiene?
Laura: Obviously. As I said before, we have an extremely good vacuum cleaner with special brushes for animal hair. In addition to other professional cleaning products, it is a real help. Of course, more time is assigned to cleaning a room in which a dog was hosted, but this does not disturb us at all.
Petmax: are you going to do something more for dogs, a playground?
Laura: Absolute. The construction site is quite large and in the plane it is to organize a dog playground with different obstacles for agility. I would also like to have an indoor playground that when time is hostile to have fun with their owners.

Correctly correct your dog! Find out when and how to startLaura: As I said before, tourists are in advance that we are a pension for pets. The reactions are totally different. Some do not understand what friendly to pets means and ask for further explanations. Most are very excited to have the opportunity to play with a dog or more and are not disturbed by their presence. Obviously, there are people who, although they knew very well where they made the booking, are subsequently disturbed by the life or the number of dogs.

Like the pension of the Tara di Moieciu de Sus there are countless pensions and hotels that are just waiting to visit our kind friends. A careful research on booking or Facebook on groups with this specific and nothing can prevent us from planning future leave. Remember, only respecting the rules of the pension/hotel and taking responsibility for our fur will it make even more accommodation eager to open their doors not only to us, to people, but also to our friends, cats or any other animal.
